Preview: QPR v Spurs

English Barclays Premiership

Les Ferdinand goes back to QPR on Saturday for one of his best mates. We travel to Loftus Road for our sixth pre-season friendly and to provide the opposition in a testimonial to Danny Maddix (right)

32-year-old Maddix signed on a free from Spurs in July 1987. Since then, the defender has made over 300 appearances in a rollercoaster ride with QPR twice finishing fifth in the top flight but also relegated to the First Division in 1996.

Ferdinand joined Rangers in the same year as Maddix and they were team-mates until the striker's move to Newcastle United in 1995.

Les scored 90 goals in 183 games in that time and rates Maddix as one of the best man markers of the past decade.

"On his day, when he was on top of his game, there wasn't a striker who used to like playing against Danny," said Ferdinand. "I've played against him when I moved to Newcastle and he was always a very difficult opponent. I've seen him through the years and as a man-to-man marker, there are very few players who I would put before him.

"Danny is actually one of my best mates and I speak to him a lot. We had a good time at QPR, lots of good laughs. We came through a lot of sticky periods, enjoyed some good times and not so good times.

"He's still there going through a bad time at the moment because they've dropped down a division and struggled to get back up. He, like myself, has also suffered in the last couple of years with some serious injuries.

Our assistant manager Stewart Houston said: "I hope Danny gets a really good crowd. Simon Morgan got almost 13,000 on Wednesday night at Fulham and I hope we can do the same on Saturday."
