Christian Ziege reasons that Manchester United will not be happy with their return so far from this season.
Logic suggests that the FA Cup is United's only reasonable chance of securing silverware from the campaign following their exit from the Champions League and a 12-point deficit in the Premiership title race - and they face title favourites Arsenal in the semi-finals of the Cup.
"I think from Manchester United's point of view the season has not been good enough, that is what they would say," pondered Christian at Spurs Lodge. "They want to win the championship, be in the next round of the Champions League and now I think they have just the FA Cup left to play for.
"At the same time, they will want to prove in their final games that the performances before are just a mishap. Although, maybe their confidence is not the greatest and we might get something out of it."
Christian was reluctant to speculate whether now is the time for our fast-developing squad to prove itself on the big Premiership stages, such as Old Trafford, saying that the selected team should just focus on each game as it comes.
"We shouldn't talk too much about it really. We have a strong squad now and nearly everybody is fit, which gives the manager a good selection of players to choose from. On the other hand, that makes it difficult for the players because everybody wants to play.
"From my point of view, we must keep concentrating and go game to game. We have big games to come - Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal - so we'll see. If we work like we have done, everything is possible."
