The Liverpool boss insisted we looked stronger than we have in recent times and was no doubt thankful for the Jari Litmanen thunderbolt that seperated the sides.
"It was a good game between two good teams and good players on both sides," said Houllier.
"I think we deserved to win more than them because we had more chances and shots at goal but we knew at 1-0 that they would push on. To be honest that was ideal for us.
"They came here on a high after winning at Sunderland and we all know they were unlucky against Chelsea. We had to be strong to beat them.
"They are a stronger side today than they have been in the past. They look like they can score goals and have good offensive potential. They were also disciplined tactically and techically very good."
Gerard Houllier was full of praise for our performance at Anfield.
