Chris Hughton has praised the professionalism of Gus Poyet after the midfielder made such an impact on his return to the side against Manchester City.
In his last season at the club, Gus was enthusiasm personified, surging forward in his trademark style in the 1-1 draw at the Lane on Monday.
He was involved in just about everything going forward in the first half, helped set-up Jermain Defoe's equaliser in the second half and hit the post in a 70-minute stint.
"You'd expect that from Gus," said coach Chris. "We've made decisions for various reasons not to start him but we felt this was the right time to bring him back in.
"He always has a big presence and you know what you will get from Gus. He's a whole-hearted player and he would be the first to admit that he can't cover the ground he used to, but having said that, there aren't many fitter players around at his age still at the top level.
"It's a credit to someone of his age and it's like when we had Teddy here, they are a credit to their profession."
