'Kazu' has bided his time since arriving at the club in January and has been praised for his progress in reserve team football by coach Colin Calderwood.
His big moment arrived on Friday but we trailed 2-0 at the interval against Kevin Keegan's men.
Playing in a holding role in midfield, Kazu showed his liking for a tackle almost immediately, competed well, wanted and distributed the ball well and, for any fans who hadn't seen him, displayed his bags of energy.
Glenn stressed afterwards: "It was very difficult for him to come on in those circumstances when were 2-0 down and there is a bit of pressure on.
"But I thought he dealt very well with it and he'll be better for that experience.
"We tried to wait until the team were playing well, but since he arrived we have not been that consistent. But he got his chance and did reasonably well and he'll feel happy to have got his debut out of the way."
Glenn Hoddle accepted that it was 'difficult' circumstances for Kazuyuki Toda to make his Premiership debut against City but praised the Japanese star for the way he went about his business.
