It was the defender's fifth game in 14 games, partnering young debutant Dorian Dervite in a 3-1 win to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.
"Daws is so fit for a big lad and he's enjoying himself, that's the advantage for him," said Martin. "He plays all the matches and has played five matches in 14 days. He's very young but he's still important, a very good character.
"I don't think there are a lot of players like him. He's honest and in a group of players, he's good for other players, a great person.
"He wants to win and he's a role model as a young player - he will be a top player."
