Gus Poyet spoke of his 'absolute pride' after our Carling Cup triumph over Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

Gus gave his reaction at Wembley after goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Jonathan Woodgate turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory after extra time.

It was our first trophy win since 1999 and, typically, Gus was full of emotion aferwards.

"We're so proud of the players and not just the players on the pitch, but the whole squad," he said.

"You can't imagine how much they've made us proud in terms of the belief, the concentration, the determination, the ambition. It was incredible."

Gus added that the style of victory, the fact that we created more chances than Chelsea and came from 1-0 to win was the icing on the cake.

"That's most important thing about the day, apart from the trophy, because when you get into a final you have to win it. But if you win and on top of that you deserved to win because you are better than the opposition and then on top of that the opposition is Chelsea, it means a lot.

"We have to use this to go to another level, because it's possible. We have to keep looking up - this is just the start."
