Gus returns to the Hertfordshire outfit on Sunday for our first pre-season friendly this time around.
He recognises how important it is to make a good start.
"It was a very good start for me," he said. "Everything went for me, even the worst free-kick ever! It was one of those days.
"It's what you need when you begin playing for a new club, even if it's not against a Premiership side.
"It was good to impress the Spurs supporters and gave me a little confidence.
"It is important to make a good start because sets up the rest of the season.
"I thought that last season, especially against Fiorentina at home when I had a nice game, scored a goal, assisted another and that was important as well.
"It is good to show the fans who will be there for the rest of the season that you want to do well for the club."
You could excuse Gus Poyet for having more than a soft spot for Stevenage Borough's Broadhall Way.
