The striker will have to watch from home as Portugal take on England in Faro.
It's a game Helder - two full caps, two goals for Portugal - would have loved to have played in but he's been ruled out of any international call-up by the hamstring injury he picked up against Manchester City.
"Of course it's disappointing," said Helder at Spurs Lodge. "It is a big game and I wanted to be in the squad because it's a good friendly for Portugal and it's against England. I'm sad to miss out but injuries happen in football."
More of a blow is that the injury came just as Helder was enjoying a fine spell of form including his first Premiership goal against Liverpool.
"I'm a little disappointed because I thought my best moments for Tottenham came before this injury, against Manchester City and Liverpool," he added.
"The injury is much better now. I started to run on Saturday and I feel good. I don't know how long it will be before I'm back but I won't come back too quickly."
As for tonight's friendly, Helder kept his answer short and to the point when asked who he thought would win. "Portugal."
Helder Postiga's frustration as he's sidelined by injury will no doubt go up a notch this evening.
