The midfielder gave a typically all-action display in his first appearance at a major international tournament at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.
Scott covered every blade of grass alongside Steven Gerrard in central midfield and threw himself in for some key blocks around the penalty area.
Joleon Lescott headed the Three Lions into the lead in the 29th minute but Samir Nasri levelled 10 minutes later.
Scott, earning his 14th cap, was substituted in the 78th minute. Jermain Defoe came on for his 48th cap a minute earlier.
“It was a good result,” said Scott, so impressive in his first season at Spurs. “You need a good base, a good foundation and certainly a 1-1 draw does that for us.
“We were tactically aware against a very good team that has a free shape, they play in and around you, so it was difficult at times.
“I thought everyone was outstanding, all 11 players and the players who came on did a fantastic job. We can build on that.”
