Posh strife for Matt

English Barclays Premiership

Matthew Etherington will miss his return to Peterborough United on Tuesday night. Our 18-year-old winger damaged his ankle playing for the reserves at Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday and has been ordered to rest.

It's a huge blow for Etherington who, alongside Simon Davies, was looking forward to going back to the club where he made his name. Etherington made his debut as a 15-year-old under Barry Fry at Posh before he and Davies were snapped up for L1.2m in January.

A disappointed Etherington revealed: "Unfortunately it looks as if I'm going to miss the friendly at London Road on Tuesday. It's a little bit of a setback for me but hopefully I'll be alright in a few days.

"I got kicked on Saturday playing for the reserves against Dulwich Hamlet and my ankle has swollen badly, so it's a matter of getting the bruising and the swelling away and hopefully it will then be alright.

"It's a real blow. I was looking forward to going back to Peterborough, I had a some happy years there, so it's a bit if a disappointment, but I've got to look out for the start of the season.

"I will probably still go up there and watch the game. It will be a bit of a disappointment for me to have to watch but that's how it goes."
