And the German wing-back quickly pointed out that a number of games went the other way last season when we played some fine football without reward.
Christian handed us the perfect start in Sunday's Premiership clash by curling home a free-kick inside two minutes.
But the Baggies hit back and should have reaped some reward from a spell of pressure after that opener.
They failed to capitalise though and further goals from Robbie Keane and Gus Poyet wrapped up the points.
"It was a good start but this was a difficult game," stated Christian. "West Brom worked hard, were a good team and played some good football as well.
"Last season we had many good games and lost them. This time maybe we didn't play that well but we have the points."
Christian admitted he didn't know too much about West Brom before Sunday's fixture.
He added: "I wasn't surprised though because although I didn't know too much about them, everyone said they were a hard working team and even if they go behind, they push on more. The pace was high and they worked us hard. They played well."
Christian Ziege agreed with Glenn Hoddle that taking the points was a positive sign after a below-par display against West Brom.
