The Club has appointed a local poet as their Poet in Residence for the remainder of the season.
Sarah Wardle is a previous winner of Poetry Review’s New Poet of the Year Award and her recent Bloodaxe book, Fields Away has been short listed for this year’s Forward Prize for Best First Collection. As part of her residency Sarah will attend matches at White Hart Lane and spend time at the ground to gain inspiration.
A lecturer in poetry at Middlesex University, Sarah will also judge a poetry competition amongst Spurs’ junior members to be launched soon:
"I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be Poet in Residence for the rest of the season. The idea is for Tottenham Hotspur to be my inspiration and hopefully through my appointment I can be the inspiration for some of Spurs’ younger fans to pick up their pens and write their own poetry."
Spurs' Director of Communications Donna Cullen explained the appointment:
"We are committed to supporting the local community, Middlesex University is right on our doorstep with popular and thriving writing courses. Hopefully Sarah can inspire more creativity amongst our supporters and particularly our younger fans."
