David Pleat felt we shaded Monday's drawn game against Manchester City at the Lane.
Nicolas Anelka put City 1-0 up against the run of play but Kasey Keller had to produce a wonder save just before half-time to deny Robbie Fowler before Jermain Defoe's equaliser seven minutes into the second half.
We also hit the woodwork, had a goal disallowed and had appeals for a penalty waved away.
"It was a tense game because we had lost our previous four and a fifth defeat would have been bad," said acting boss David afterwards.
"I felt we shaded the game and I am very pleased with the character and commitment shown by my players.
"It was exciting. We should have won. We had a goal disallowed, hit the post and we think Defoe could have had a penalty.
"It was a difficult team selection and we've had our share of bad luck. We've had three injuries, but we're pleased with a point."
