As far as the club are concerned we will be talking to Stephen Carr and his representatives again and claims that we are not treating the player with respect deserve contempt.
Says director of football David Pleat: “I am most concerned when players and their agents feel the need to go public on private discussions.
“We refuse to conduct negotiations through the media and all figures will remain private, as they should.
“We have every respect for Stephen Carr and it is our intention to keep him content and for him to stay at White Hart Lane with an improved contract which has already been discussed.
“Although he signed an extension to his contract in good faith as the start of the previous season we are still prepared to give him an improved deal, despite the fact that he still has three and a half years to go on his existing agreement.”
Reports on radio and television claiming that contract negotiations with our full-back Stephen Carr have hit problems are totally untrue.
