David Pleat describes Alan Shearer as the 'model professional'.
The Newcastle hitman is the Premiership's record goalscorer and back at the top of the charts this season - ahead of the likes of Henry, Van Nistelrooy and Owen.
Shearer, former England skipper with 30 goals in 63 internationals, has 13 Premiership goals to his name so far this campaign.
Acting boss David said: "He is in the hunt again for the Golden Boot, is a model professional and I think if you went to any Premiership manager and say to them, if they had a pick, they would go for him.
"That's not just because goalscorers are revered, or that he's British, or captain - he represents the club so well and he has done it consistently year after year.
"What a lot of people forget are the serious injuries he suffered.
"We'll have to watch him. He's particularly brave, dangerous in the air and has clever movement."
