Despite managing to return for 20 minutes of our final game of last season against Blackburn, Christian encountered problems again with his thigh in pre-season that required further surgery. His last comeback against West Ham at the end of October in the Carling Cup was blighted by the suffering of a knee injury but, this time around, he lasted the course in a very difficult game.
"Christian did well to stand up so well really, he ended up on his backside a few times early on," reflected David of Christian's return, one in which he collected a booking after 31 minutes. "I did worry when he caught a couple of players that he would get sent off if he wasn't careful.
"He did very well though, in the second half he played with some restraint, in particular against the pace of Boa Morte.
"He got through the game and I am delighted for him as it wasn't easy - not easy for him to get forward as Fulham apply pressure down the flanks."
