David Pleat says John Jackson is 'beginning to flourish'.
The youngster's stock rose further with a splendid strike to seal the points at Charlton last week.
It's been an amazing turn around in fortunes for John after making his full debut at Portsmouth on Boxing Day - a week before, he was on loan at Coventry City and sure he was on his way out of the Lane.
What a difference six weeks makes. "He's beginning to flourish," said David. "You never know about players' temperament.
"We loaned him out to Colchester, Swindon and Coventry so we were getting an idea that he could take the strain of playing in front of a big crowd, sometimes a negative press if you don't play well and a praiseworthy press if you do well. It's those type of things.
"I know he's a good footballer, nice touch, can play the ball, is composed - and it also looks like he might have the temperament.
"The fact is it also allowed me to move Jon Blondel on, a player of some considerable talent, but the fact John has made good progress helped that decision."
