Phil Ifil, just 17, played in England's latest World U20 Championship match in Dubai yesterday.

Our Academy starlet, an unused substitute in the first game against Japan, completed the full 90 minutes as Les Reed's young side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Egypt.

Ben Bowditch was on the bench again at Dubai's Al-Maktoum Stadium.

Emad Motab scored the only goal of the game in the second half but England, fielding the youngest squad in the tournament, stood up well to the test.

England face Colombia in their final group match on Friday needing a win and results to go their way to progress.

Meanwhile, young defender Stephen Kelly played the full 90 minutes as the Republic Of Ireland drew 2-2 with Costa Rica. They need a point against Mexico in their final group game on Friday to go through to the next stage.
