Peter Crouch said the fact that the lads left Werder Bremen with ‘a little frustration' spoke volumes about the performance.
We made a storming start to life in the Champions League ‘proper' against the team that finished third in the Bundesliga last season.
Crouchy was heavily involved, pressurising Petri Pasanen into an own goal after 12 minutes and then planting a header home for 2-0 six minutes later.
The home side hit back just before half-time and that goal changed the game.
The impressive Marko Marin levelled just two minutes into the second half and then both teams had chances - our best falling to ‘Crouchy' two minutes fromt time - as it ended 2-2 at the Weserstadion.
"It was a little frustrating in the end, especially after such a good start," said Crouchy. "But before the game, we'd have probably taken a point.
"The first half was fantastic. We started really well, passed the ball around and played exceptionally well.
"We have to take the positives. It was our first taste of the Champions League group stages and I thought we performed very well.
"We showed we can match anyone on our day.
"We're disappointed not to have won the game and that speaks volumes about our performance."
