Pat Holland saw Saturday's Academy clash at Wimbledon as the perfect scenario - victory and the chance to field two schoolboys.
Goalkeeper David Button and midfielder Jamie Davis came on in the second half of the 2-1 success as goals from Richard Heller and Andy Barcham got the lads back to winning ways.
"Yes, we managed to get a couple of schoolboys on and they both gave good accounts of themselves, so that was pleasing," said coach Pat.
"I'm sure it won't always work like that. It was ideal because Wimbledon aren't the strongest this season and there might be teams we'll have to be more careful with."
Pat admits he's starting to think of the FA Youth Cup with the lads entering the competition in the third round stage in December.
"We're beginning to get a better look at the side and the make up for the youth team for the FA Youth Cup," added Pat. "If they are good enough they'll be given an opportunity.
"We needed to look at certain kids who have done well in the Under-16s and we'll be looking to give another one or two a chance in the next couple of weeks.
"There might be one or two other schoolboys who might creep in and feature just for 20 minutes and that will give us an idea of our best side."
