The winger was in flying form alongside Jan Vertonghen down the left as we tested Villa down both flanks without reward in the first half.
The goal eventually arrived in the 58th minute when Gareth swung in a corner, Jermain Defoe took aim and his shot clipped off Steven Caulker and home.
Aaron Lennon then drilled home the second and we dominated from there - Gareth struck the woodwork late on.
"We knew Villa would come here and put up a fight," said Gareth. "It was a case of being patient and eventually the breakthrough came.
"The most important thing was that patience. We played our football, we were confident and it was a good performance in the end.
"It was great to get the three points and keep our place right up there in the table."
That first goal was key. "I thought JD had scored!" added Gareth. "It's just important that the team gets the goals and the win is most vital.
"We're full of confidence, playing well, gelling nicely and hopefully we can keep this run going for many more games."
