In the end we had to settle for a draw at Stevanage Borough FC as Marlon King cancelled out Helder Postiga's opener.
The Portuguese striker put us in front just before half-time and we hit the crossbar three times - Helder twice and Mark Yeates - as we dominated for long periods.
The second goal proved elusive though, Forest levelled and it could have been worse - King missed badly when clean through in the final minute.
"I was thinking 'don't lose it now' when they had that chance at the end," admitted Pat, in charge again for the night.
"We played well in spells and it was one of those nights. Helder Postiga's hit the bar twice, two terrific efforts and the second, the header from a cross from John Jackson, would have been a great goal. He also took his goal well.
"Yeatesy then hit his effort, the keeper made a fantastic save and at that stage all we needed was the second goal. That would have killed it off, for sure.
"In the end we just went to sleep on a ball in for their equaliser which was a shame because the centre-halves did very well. The threat was always going to come from their strikers and in the end, King got in.
"Overall the spirit was good, the lads worked hard but perhaps at times the final ball just needed to be better."
Pat Holland was convinced a second goal would have killed off last night's reserve clash against Forest.
