A few facts on... Partizan Belgrade

Some facts and stats about Partizan Belgrade – our opponents in this evening’s Europa League Group C opener in Serbia.

It will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs at the Partizan Stadium, kick-off 6pm UK time (7pm local time).

Formed – The club was founded in October, 1945.

Domestic champions – Partizan have won 25 league titles throughout their history, the most recent being in 2013.

Manager – The man in charge of Partizan is 35-year-old Marko Nikolic, who has previously had spells in charge of Rad and Vojvodina.

Top form – Partizan are top of the Serbian league standings with five wins out of five so far in 2014-15, with a goal difference of +14.

Last time out – They beat Cukaricki 4-2 in their latest domestic outing on Saturday.

High-scoring – They also put four goals past Belgrade neighbours Rad earlier this month and have scored at least twice in every league game this season.

Momentum – Partizan are unbeaten in all 11 competitive matches so far this season, winning nine and drawing two.

Champions League – After beating HB Torshavn 6-1 over two legs in the Champions League second qualifying round, Partizan were knocked out by Ludogorets Razgrad on away goals in the third qualifying round after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

Qualification – Having been knocked out of Champions League qualification, Partizan beat Neftci PFK 5-3 on aggregate in the Europa League Play-Off Round to reach the group stage.

Last term – Partizan finished second in the Serbian league standings, but were knocked out of the Europa League at the Play-Off Round stage by FC Thun.

English record – Partizan have lost their last three games against teams from England.

Hosting Premier League sides – Their last home victory against an English team was a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in a 1998-99 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup tie.

We’ve met before – Partizan forward Danko Lazović has played against us before. He was part of the PSV Eindhoven side that beat us on penalties in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup last 16.

Played in London – Another of the Club’s forwards, Ismaël Fofana, was on Charlton Athletic’s books between 2006 and 2010.
