The Canadian international was involved in a dramatic title run-in in the 2003-04 season in the Bundesliga and there are more than a few parallels to our bid for fourth spot in the Premiership this time around.
Werder Bremen topped the table from Christmas but Bayern Munich gnawed away at their lead until they met at the Olympiastadion on May 8, 2004 - Paul's side memorably ran out 3-1 winners and the race was all over.
"The pressure was on because we had a tough schedule to close out the season as well," recalled Paul.
"The only difference was that we had a bigger gap than we've had here at Spurs but it was similar in that at Christmas we had a decent lead and although we extended it, Bayern Munich managed to close it down.
"We needed a strong finish and we did that against Hamburg (they won 6-0) and then Munich. If we hadn't beaten Munich the gap would have gone down to three points with two games to go, but we went there, beat them 3-1 and that sealed it.
"Obviously it can get tense and we'll see if we're good enough to do it.
"To crack that fourth spot and break into the top four of the Premiership will be a major accomplishment.
"I think the young lads in the team have handled the pressure exceptionally well until now and if they can continue to do that and we get the results it will be a fantastic achievement."
Paul Stalteri can draw on his experiences at Werder Bremen as the race for fourth spot in the Premiership goes down to the wire.
