Pain and joy for Christian

Posted on 7 January 2014  - 12:25

Saturday proved a bitter-sweet day for Christian Eriksen.

His first North London derby ended in bitter disappointment as we suffered a 2-0 loss in the FA Cup at Arsenal.

But just hours later, he was presented with the most prestigious individual award in Danish football - the Danish Football Players’ Association Player of the Year for 2013.

Christian certainly felt the intensity as he lined-up against the Gunners for the first time.

“Everyone was determined to win and you feel that pressure from everywhere,” he said.

“There is such much feeling involved and it’s nice to play in matches like that, but that makes it all the more disappointing when you lose.”

As for his award, Christian - who helped Ajax clinch a third-successive title before joining us in the summer - described it as a ‘special honour’.

“It’s a big thing, a real honour to win that award from my fellow professionals and a proud moment for me.”

Capped 42 times by Denmark, Christian joins the likes of Daniel Agger, Christian Paulsen, Jon Dhal Tomasson, Brian Laudrup, Michael Laudrup, Peter Schmeichel and former Spur Allan Nielsen (1996) on the list of Danish Player of the Year winners.

Christian was also recently named Best Player in the Dutch Eredivisie in 2013 by readers of Dutch kids magazine ‘Goal’ - he's pictured with the award below.
