Ossie speaks on White Hart Lane return

Part one of our exclusive interview with Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles...

Ossie Ardiles reiterated his heartfelt thanks to all Spurs fans for their support as he returned to White Hart Lane for the first time since a serious car accident in the Falkland Islands last month.

Our legendary former midfielder was alongside fellow legend Ricky Villa and son Freddy, plus another four passengers, when his vehicle overturned.

Thankfully, no-one was seriously injured. Ossie was kept in the King Edward VII Hospital in Port Stanley and needed 35 stitches in a head wound, but was quickly back on his feet and back at the Lane for Sunday's win against Everton.

Ossie made a point of sending an email to the club to thank the fans just after the accident - and that was the subject he immediately returned to as he spoke with Spurs TV.

"I’m very happy to be here now," said Ossie, who won the FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 10 years as a player having joined us after World Cup glory with Argentina in 1978.

"I always say that my second home was Tottenham. When I come here I always feel good, I feel like I’m with family and I’m fine, I’m totally recovered.

"I’d like to thank everyone at Spurs and all the supporters. I had so many emails, so many people were concerned, so I'd like to thank everyone.

"It was frightening, a huge accident, I remember Ricky Villa was next to me and we were up and down like a cocktail. I was thinking at the time ‘this is big’ and that it was going to be very bad, but fortunately no-one was seriously hurt.

"The fans helped me a lot. I can’t say thank-you enough. There are so many people to thank, the people on the Falkland Islands, the people in the hospital, the people in the RAF and Dr John on the helicopter, in many ways he saved my life. The doctors and nurses were absolutely different class."
