Ossie Ardiles is not the first person who can see a working similarity between Harry Redknapp and the great Bill Nicholson.

Our former manager and midfield inspiration counts himself lucky to have known Bill during his time at White Hart Lane – and he believes that our current squad should be inspired by the historic achievements of Nicholson’s ‘Double’ side 50 years ago.

Ossie again presents his exclusive monthly column in the April issue of our official magazine Hotspur. And after praising our Champions League journey to date, he looks back with great affection at his time with Bill.

“When I signed for Tottenham in 1978 I became aware very quickly of the fine tradition and success we have here,” he recalls. “Bill was still at the club, but working as a consultant, and I got to know him very well.

“He was a great person…an excellent character and we had many fun moments together. He would always say to me that players from Argentina were not very good – that they were over rated – and I would respond that we were the world champions!

“I had a fantastic relationship with him. He is rightly held in the highest regard at the club and when I look at Harry Redknapp, I think he too will become a hero like Bill did.

“What Harry has achieved at the Lane is simply phenomenal. The fans have a fantastic relationship with him and have a lot of respect for him. This will grow even more in time.”

Read all of Ossie’s column – and a whole lot more – in the current issue of Hotspur where readers also have the chance to win Steven Pienaar’s signed match shirt in our latest free-to-enter competition that always offers special prizes.
