ORBIS welcomes Teddy aboard

Posted on 16 April 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Club Captain Teddy Sheringham has visited the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital at Stansted Airport for a private tour.

ORBIS is our nominated international charity for the 2002-3 and 2003-4 seasons and exists to preserve and restore sight worldwide. Many people are unaware that 80% of world blindness is avoidable. Amazingly of the 45 million people worldwide who are blind, 36 million simply do not need to be.

During the tour Teddy was introduced to ORBIS Staff Ophthalmologist Rhona Duggan who was delighted to show him around, "It is wonderful to receive such high profile support, it is a great boost to the work that we are doing in the field."

Teddy was equally happy to see the hospital at first hand, "Orbis are making a real difference to people's lives. Hopefully with the club's involvement we can help make more people aware of the scale of avoidable blindness around the world, and help Orbis reach out to more people who need their assistance."

You can help ORBIS now by making a donation either by text or via their web site Each text donation will save the sight of a child blinded by trachoma.

To make a donation, text ORBIS to 80540. Your message will be charged at the standard rate and will result in Orbis receiving two messages charged at £1.50 each including at least a 70p donation from both. For the full terms see
