Glenn Hoddle takes his Tottenham team to Southampton for the second time since his defection from the south coast in March 2001. His first visit ended in a 1-0 defeat last season and a repeat outcome will delight the majority of supporters inside St Mary's on Wednesday.

The Saints are unbeaten at home since April and will fancy their chances against a Spurs team that lost 2-1 at Newcastle last Sunday. The north Londoners remain behind Gordon Strachan's side in the Premiership table although only on goal difference.

James Beattie scored the only goal in the corresponding fixture last season and the barrel chested front man will probably be the biggest threat to the visitors. His 12 goals in his last 12 Premiership games make him one of the most prolific strikers in the division at the moment.

The Spurs defence failed to cope with Alan Shearer on Sunday and if former Saints centre-back Dean Richards is fit enough to play against his old team he is sure to be given the task of trying to shackle Beattie.

But the Saints recent success is not just about one man; the whole team has performed well as a unit to suffer just one Premiership defeat in nine.

Despite this Opta Index still pick out a number of individuals who have contributed to the cause. Chris Marsden's 63 successful challenges is the most by an Englishman in the top flight while no player has completed more dribbles and runs than Fabrice Fernandes' 115 in 2002-03.

And Swedish central defender Michael Svensson has performed admirably at the heart of the Saints rearguard since his arrival from French outfit Troyes last summer. Svensson will need to keep his concentration against a Spurs team whose goals-to-shots-ratio of 14% is the fourth-best in the Premiership.
