Spurs have enjoyed a miserable recent history against the west Londoners, with the 5-1 Worthington Cup victory at White Hart Lane in 2002 proving to be their only success in the past 31 meetings between the teams.
Tottenham’s last win at Stamford Bridge came with a 2-1 success back in February 1990 and since then they have lost nine and drawn four of their league games in SW6. A win for Chelsea on Saturday will mean they have taken more points off Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the Premiership than against any other side. Overall, the Pensioners have taken 48 points off Spurs in the Premiership compared to just nine heading in the other direction.
If Spurs are to reverse this trend they will have to be the first side to beat Chelsea since this summer’s Russian revolution and also become only the second side to win a Premiership game at Stamford Bridge in 2003.
Glenn Hoddle’s men only have two wins themselves on their travels in 2003 - at West Brom and Aston Villa — and after the shock 3-0 home defeat to Fulham in their last Premiership outing, they will be keen to cause an upset of their own over Chelsea’s newly acquired star-studded squad.
