Opta Player of the Month: December 2003
Robbie Keane started December brilliantly with a hat-trick against former club Wolves, but some fine displays by the likes of compatriots Shay Given and Dean Kiely prevented him from adding to that tally.
In fact, only three players scored more goals than Keane during the month and his impressive shooting accuracy figures — he fired 77% of his efforts on target - shows how unfortunate he was not to add to his total.
The Irishman’s general play was also of the highest order. Keane completed a very good 80% of his passes, meaning that he rarely surrendered possession cheaply and he also beat his man on 44% of his dribbles and runs.
There is no doubt that Keane’s form is central to Spurs’ chances of turning around a disappointing first half of the season and with Freddie Kanoute likely to head for the African Nations Cup in January, the Irishman will once again be Spurs main goal threat.
