Opta Player Of The Month, October
Ledley King

Tottenham’s England international defender Ledley King’s takes Opta’s Tottenham player of the month award on the strength of some fine defensive displays in October.

The 24-year-old has been a model of consistency in the heart of the north Londoners’ defence, helping summer signings Noe Pamarot, Nourredine Naybet and and Erik Edman to successfully make the transition to the Premiership.

In October, King managed 46 clearances out of defence, a tally only improved upon by five other players in the top tier. The Londoner also blocked three opponents’ shots, more than any other Spurs player.

However, in the finest traditions of Spurs players, King is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, finding a team-mate with 115 passes. Only midfielder Pedro Mendes managed more during October for Tottenham.

King’s fellow defender Noe Pamarot takes the runner-up spot this month, with the young Frenchman continuing to make the right-back spot his own.

The former Nice player started October by grabbing the winning goal against Everton at Goodison Park, his first goal in the Premiership. Overall, the 24-year-old has had three attempts on goal. No other Spurs defender or midfielder has managed more strikes.

Pamarot also won nine tackles last month. No Spurs player could better that tally, while only this month’s winner Ledley King blocked more shots than Pamarot.

The Frenchman also got forward in wide positions to fire in nine crosses, the joint highest total at Spurs along with Robbie Keane.

And it is Keane who takes third place this month, with the Irishman finally breaking his duck in the Premiership this term courtesy of a single goal against Bolton on the 23rd October.

The former Inter Milan ace also set up Noe Pamarot’s goal at the start of the month and since then the 25-year-old has continued to test defenders up front, setting up goalscoring chances for team-mates on eight occasions, more than any other Spurs player.
