Steve Bruce was left to reflect on a 'wonderful spectacle' as his Sunderland side ran out 3-1 winners on Saturday.
Darren Bent got the Black Cats off to the perfect start with the opening goal inside a minute, doubled the lead from the penalty spot just before the half-hour and then saw two penalties saved by Heurelho Gomes.
We came back into it in the second half and after the second of those penalty saves, Peter Crouch headed home for 2-1. A comeback looked on but Bolo Zenden clinched it for the home side with a spectacular third goal five minutes from time.
"The lads gave me everything and we got out of the traps brilliantly," said Bruce.
"If you go back eight weeks and think of the dross we dished up and then compare that to what we produced today, that's what we're in football for,"
"The game had everything - missed chances, goals, great goals, great performances and I'm sure the fans enjoyed it."
