Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu recognised his side had been in a battle after our UEFA Cup last 32 first leg in Ukraine on Thursday night.

Late goals from substitute Yevgen Seleznov and Jadson in the 78th and 88th minutes respectively handed Lucescu's side a 2-0 lead in the tie with the second leg to follow back at White Hart Lane on Thursday, February 26.

Chances were few and far between on the night with both goalkeepers rarely troubled. "It was a very good win but we had problems because it was difficult to get through their defence," said Lucescu.

"It was a good match against a good team who were very organised.

"I'm sure it would have been easier if we'd have scored in the first half because Tottenham would have played a more open game but in the end I was very pleased with the result.

"We know it will be tough in London but we also know that Tottenham have to prepare for a cup final, so it will be difficult for them as well."
