Jerome Thomas gave the Addicks a dream start with a thunderbolt in the fourth minute but we had the best of the rest of the half and came closest in a disappointing second half before Danny Murphy curled home a free-kick to seal it five minutes from time.
Curbishley said: "We got a great start with a fantastic strike from Jerome but I think Spurs played well in the first half and I was so pleased to get into half-time leading and we sorted a few things out, then got stronger as the game went on.
"Spurs had two or three decent chances, and they didn't take them. Sometimes games hinge on that. They looked a good outfit, especially in the first half, and I am so pleased we beat them.
"I am obviously delighted with the result and for the two boys who scored two fabulous goals.
"It was a big result. But it was a big game because it was Spurs - it wasn't about league positions, because there is a long way to go."
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley admitted he was pleased to be leading at half-time before his side won last night's Valley clash 2-0.
