We had the better of the opening exchanges and led thanks to Erik Edman's 35-yard screamer.
Liverpool hit back through Luis Garcia just before the break and had the better of the second half although Robbie Keane headed us into a 2-1 lead after 55 minutes.
Steven Gerrard missed a penalty, Sami Hyypia equalised, Gerrard hit the post and Fernando Morientes missed from close range in injury time as it stayed 2-2.
Benitez said: "We played very well, from the last 15 minutes of the first half to the end of the match we were on top, playing at a high tempo and with good passes, crosses, shots, penalties and even against the post. We did everything we could.
"Some of the lads were very tired after the Champions League game but worked very hard.
"I suppose it was a good game to watch but not as a manager, that was very frustrating.
"Spurs played well but we controlled all the second half. We kept the ball and made lots of chances even if they did well on the counter-attack.
"Maybe you need a little more calmness when we are in a position of having chances at the end, not always shooting immediately the ball gets to you."
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said he was pleased with his side's performance but disappointed with the result at Anfield on Saturday.
