"The focus was on Spurs and Europe but ut we weren't going to come here and lie down. We haven't done that all season," said Hughes.
"We had aspirations ourselves. We wanted to finish as high as possible in the league.
"It was important we put in a performance which enabled us to go on a summer break in good heart.
"We didn't want to go in on the back of three defeats."
Hughes admitted that Fredi Kanoute had caused his side problems in the first half but it was difficult to argue against his summing up that we didn't really threaten in the second half.
"For most of the season Martin (Jol) has used a big man and a small man. It is dependent on which one he chooses on any given day," said Hughes.
"It is when they have all three of them on but they didn't really cause us a problem in the second half.
"The first half we played okay. Fredi Kanoute caused us a little problem with his ability in the air. We sorted that out at half-time and apart from a few balls into the box and a few goalmouth scrambles we were better."
Rovers boss Mark Hughes post-match words reflected his side's display in Sunday's goalless draw in the season's finale at the Lane.
