The 20-year-old winger has been a permanent fixture on the bench since returning from a successful loan spell at Bradford City at Christmas.
Now he's hoping to take the next step - a run of starts.
He said: "I'm getting more and more opportunites which is a good thing for me personally.
"I'm just waiting for sustained period to prove myself over 90 minutes because it can be hard coming on for just 20 minutes but I'm getting opportunities and that's the main thing."
His next opportunity may just arrive at Craven Cottage and Sunday's televised Premiership clash against Fulham.
Matty added: "We need three points to get us going again because seventh spot could still be enough for Europe and that's what the manager is drumming into us.
"A win on Sunday might just be the kick-start we need.
"We just need to win. We're creating chances but we're not putting them away, which we were earlier in the season."
Opportunity appears to be knocking again for Matthew Etherington.
