"Last season a lot of focus went on our cups runs," said the boss ahead of Sunday's trip to Sunderland.
"Now we have to look at any positives. That situation won't happen for the time being, obviously we want to do well in the FA Cup, but in the meantime there would have been a heavy load in December and January, a lot of games.
"You can take a couple out now and we can concentrate 100 per cent on the Premiership and trying to consolidate our position. It is a tight division and with a couple of losses, you can do down quickly."
Glenn Hoddle says the only tiny consolation after our Worthington Cup exit is that we can concentrate on the Premiership until the FA Cup arrives in January.
