I still remember it quite clearly, I am 19 now and have been a Spurs fan since the age of 4.
I had just started school and everyone I knew supported Liverpool, because I suppose they were the team to support back then when you're young and impressionable. However I was more interested in the other things four year old's are interested in, because my dad is not a big football fan (he supports Wimbledon what can I say?).
Therefore I was largely undecided on which team I favoured, although if I am honest I was probably leaning towards being a Liverpool fan.
Anyway it was Halloween 1986, and after a hard night's 'trick or treating' my mum took me into a neighbours house because she had a 'surprise' for me. Our neighbours husband has been a Spurs fan his entire life and has raised his son the right way, the Lillywhite way.
To my delight my surprise turned out to be two 'hand me down' Spurs kits from the centenary season. Considering the neighbours son was about 12/14 at the time, I drowned in the old kits looking quite a sight. However from that moment on my fate was sealed, I was well and truly a Spurs fan for life.
When I look back, the gift of two four year old football kits, isn't a very good gift but it certainly done the job. And those two kits still hang proudly in my wardrobe at home, even if they are a bit of a tight fit.
