My earliest memory is of a TV news story on Spurs winning the double in 1961 (it meant something in those days).
I was only 8, but the feat and the nickname stayed with me. I was raised in West Yorkshire, surrounded by Leeds Utd fans, but I remained loyal. The first game I saw was the 1967 F.A. Cup final on TV. This finally cemented my conversion and I have been one-eyed ever since.
I was brought up on the skills of one of the best teams ever, with the likes of Jennings, Knowles, Kinnear, England, Mullery, Mackay, Venables, Greaves, Gilzean, Jones & Robertson. I remember a lot of 5-0 and 7-1 results in those days.
One of my most memorable games was beating Man.Utd 2-1 in a F.A. Cup fixture in 1968. United had their string of top players and opened the scoring, but we hit back with two late second
We have always played a skilful and attractive brand of football, with many great players gracing our club. Some of my all-time favourites, besides the above team, being Hoddle, Perryman, Mabbutt, Ardiles, Beal, Ginola and Hughton. But then anyone who puts on a Lilywhite shirt is special.
I was also able to convert my wife to the fold, in reality she took one look at Glenn Hoddle in the late 70's and has never looked at anyone since, even when he went to Chelsea.
The current crop of players, under Glenn, are starting to look like they could take Spurs into another Golden Era. I hope so, even though I am currently living in Australia, my wife and I will be watching every game possible. One day I hope to see a F.A. Cup final live!
