However when it came to cup final day I would pick a side to support for that game but on cup final day 1987 I was bitten by Spurs-itis.
I was just weeks away from my 11th birthday and Spurs were to be my team
for the day.
As we dashed through the game I willed the whites on and kept my eyes fixed upon a certain Chris Waddle. When Coventry eventually lifted the cup I felt a sadness inside that did not usually appear and it was after this game and when I returned to school that I found out I was not the only one supporting Spurs that day and it was safe to say that when conversing about Spurs at lunchtime and breaktime, well yeah, and in lessons too, I found that Spurs were something special to me.
I guess I just picked up the Spurs fever on the day of the cup final and they have been in my blood ever since.
It was a shame when Hoddle and Waddle left straight after but two more heroes would appear in Gazza and Lineker, and when they appeared as the stars of the 1990 world cup a real sense of pride befell me.
