Once upon a Spur: Robert Schnettler

Posted on 26 September 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

I was on holiday in London, my wife had won the trip through work. I am from the Missouri in the middle of the United States.

I always had to watch the Spurs at 2:30 in the morning. I convinced my wife that we had to see the Spurs, she finally caved and said "yes".

My God! I would see the Spurs at White Hart Lane (in person). Once in London, she kept saying 'Do we have to go, it costs so much. I am only doing this for you'.

Game - Spurs versus Everton. Seats were incredible, two rows from the pitch. Again, my wife starts in 'I am letting you do this because I love you and not because I want to be here'.

Second half, Everton leads 2-1. Never seen a real game, I was not prepared for the intensity of the fans. Everton fans were just darn right rude. Anderton scores on a shot from forty yards out (2-2), my wife jumps out of her seat and starts cheering.

Game on the line, less than 10 minutes left. Spurs score from a corner kick. Before the referee can signal goal. My wife is out of her seat giving books and screaming with the Spurs fans at the Everton fans.

I said I thought you came but you did not care. She said "I am a SPURS fan now!" And she has been a Spurs fans ever since. You have gotta love the magic of White Hart Lane!
