October 1: Was it a dream?

Posted on 2 October 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

I was out with my family and Christian Ziege after Saturday's game against United, we had a glass of wine, we talked and both thought 'wake up, this is a dream'. We both couldn't believe it happened.

We had an unbelievable first half. Everything was perfect. We worked as a team, played well, scored three goals against the best team in England.

If you ask every player now, they all have something to say about the second half. For me, we didn't work as a team, especially without the ball. That is why we came under pressure and why they scored early goals.

We were happy after the first half but it wasn't a feeling that we had won the game. We knew the game wasn't finished.

Perhaps it wasn't understandable for supporters to see Tottenham like that in the first half and then like that in the second half. On the pitch there was a feeling of 'what is going on' in the second half. We didn't play as a team and if you don't do that against Manchester United, you don't win.

If you are not on the pitch with everything against United, your power, aggression, whatever, then you can lose. That is the first time in my life I've been 3-0 up at half-time and lost 5-3 and I hope it never happens again.

But you have to try and pick yourselves up as quickly as possible. We have a couple of days off in the middle of the week and train again on Friday.

We will train hard though. A rest is good but three or four days is not right. It is international week as well and everyone will be looking to those games, especially for me as a German.
