Obika so close

Jon Obika almost marked his England debut with a goal on Wednesday night.

The Academy striker currently out on loan at Yeovil Town in League One started his first game for England Under-19s in the friendly against Czech Republic at Walsall.

The striker played in the first half as coach Brian Eastwick looked at his squad ahead of the UEFA U19 European Championship Elite Qualifying Round in May.

Chances were few and far between in that first half but striker Jon came closest when he turned his man and fired just wide.

England struck the woodwork twice in the second half but it stayed 0-0 at the Banks's Stadium.

Academy team-mate John Bostock enjoyed a win in England Under-17s opening match in the UEFA U17 European Championship Elite Qualifying Round in Hungary.

The midfielder started in the 1-0 win against Portugal with Luke Freeman's second half goal securing victory in the Varosi Stadium, Szombathely, Hungary.

Serbia are next up for the U17s on Friday.

The Under-21s return to action on Friday with Jamie O'Hara, Fraizer Campbell and Tom Huddlestone facing a friendly for England in Norway, Dorian Dervite is in the France squad in Estonia and Oscar Jansson part of the Sweden squad for a friendly against Belgium.
