November 14: World Cup...and haircut

Posted on 14 November 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

I am sure Germany will go to the World Cup against Ukraine in Dortmund tonight.

I'm honest, we are not world class at the moment but I think we are strong enough to beat Ukraine.

I have respect for Ukraine but we are in Germany and as long as we don't all have a bad day, we will go through

I think the 1-1 draw in Kiev was a very good result because we don't need to score, don't need to go forward. That doesn't make it easier but you know you are in the World Cup with a 0-0 draw. I think we will do it from here.

I watched the first leg on Saturday and was able to see how Christian Ziege and Sergei Rebrov played.

Sergei was changed after 55 minutes and I'm honest, I think you can see that he hasn't played for the last four or five weeks. He tried but he wasn't really in the game. I'm sure he will come back though.

Christian took 15 minutes to get into the game but he was solid, strong, won his one-on-one situations and closed the left side. He's very important for the German team now.

Christian has come back strong. If you have a look at players you can see what they can do. I always knew that Christian could do well for Tottenham and Germany and if you believe in that then you can come back.

If you don't believe, like his situation turned out in Liverpool, it is very difficult.

Not every manager can believe in you but you need that feeling that the manager respects you and that you always have a chance in his system or squad. I was sure for Christian that he could come to Tottenham and play good football again and I'm delighted to have been proved right.

Many of you might have seen me with my 1989 haircut in the Mirror newspaper on Monday.

For me, it was a special haircut. I remember the Wall fell down and that was the time to change my hairdresser!

That was a special East German haircut. It was part of my life and I can smile about that. I think it is a wonderful picture!
