Armenia 1-0 Wales

The Wales under-21 team, including our own Simon Davies who won his tenth cap, fell to a surprise single goal defeat to Armenia in their European under-21 championship encounter in Abovyan.

The winner came in the 82nd minute when substitute Aram Hakobyan got clear of Stephen Evans on the right onto a long ball from Sergei Erzrvmyan and chipped the ball over David Walsh into the far corner.

Coach Jimmy Shoulder complained that that the Armenians adopted an over physical approach to the game, saying that his some of his players had red-raw legs as a result of raking challenges.

Davies and Maxwell worked hard to turn their pressure and possession into goals, but Wales were caught on the break in closing stages.
