The South African champions won 2-1 at the ABSA Stadium in Durban thanks to a late penalty from Lesley Manyathela.
An own goal via Helder Postiga's shot had earlier wiped out Steve Lekoelea's superb free-kick to open the scoring for Pirates.
There were positives though, none less than the performance of young goalkeeper Rob Burch in his biggest Spurs game to date.
"The game was good for us," said Glenn in his press conference afterwards. "You have to remember it's still early in our pre-season.
"It was a difficult pitch for us, not the normal conditions we'd find, but it's a rugby pitch and they've done as good a job as they could.
"It was a good run out physically and another game under our belts. We were disappointed lose but all in all, I thought Pirates played well.
"You learn from every game. We've a young squad and had a young goalkeeper out there in Rob Burch, a great experience for him to play in those conditions.
"We're looking to improve and build towards the start of the Premiership and we haven't picked up any injuries, so that's a real bonus."
Glenn Hoddle insisted our opening friendly in South Africa was ideal in terms of our overall pre-season programme despite defeat against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
