Heurelho Gomes cannot wait to get back in front of our fans again when we take on Villarreal at the Lane tonight.
The ever popular goalkeeper has reiterated just how important our fantastic support was to the team last season.
He hopes the following will be just as strong during the coming campaign and insists the team will look to put in a performance for them against the La Liga side.
Gomes, back from World Cup duty with Brazil, also feels Villarreal provide an ideal test ahead of what we hope will be extensive Champions League football this season.
He said: "It's good to be back home and playing in front of our own fans. They helped us a lot last season and we hope they do so again this season because they push us on so much. We need this in order to win competitions and games - we need them all the time.
"Villarreal are a great team and a good side in Europe. They have the experience of Champions League and Europa League football.
"We need to play against teams like this so we can do a good job in the Champions League, so I'm looking forward to this first game at the Lane. We hope to do a great job in front of our own fans."
Although he did not feature in South Africa this summer, Gomes feels he benefitted just from being involved in a squad which reached the quarter-finals of the tournament before being defeated by eventual finalists Holland.
And he also played his first international football in nearly four years during warm-up matches against Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
The 29-year-old added: "The World Cup was a great experience for me regardless of Brazil not winning. I felt we deserved more from that game because we played much better than Holland in the first half, but they won. However, for me personally, the experience was so good.
"I played two games because of Julio Cesar's injury and I played very well. I was prepared at that time to play in the World Cup as well, but he got fit again and played. If he hadn't have done, I was prepared to play and believe I would have performed."
Tickets for tonight's games will be available on the turnstiles in the North and East stands (cash only) from 6.30pm onwards, kick off 8pm.
